Season 1 of The Amazing Race Asia was like watching the first season of The Amazing Race... It was fresh, it was exciting, and the majority of the racers were competent, intelligent and above all interesting people to watch (i.e. I didn't want to reach into the tv and slap them.... most of them, anyway).

If Season 2 of TAR:Asia ends up being like Season 2 of TAR I will be a sad panda, but for now I'll reminisce by recapping what is probably my favourite episode of Season 1.

Kid On a Swing

After arriving in New Zealand, the teams were instructed to take a ferry to an island where they had to look for a "kid on a swing". Most of the teams disembarked from the ferry and walked/ran all around the suburbian haven of the island trying to find the kid on a swing, though to no avail. Only one team spotted the kid sitting on a swing right next to the ferry dock where they'd disembarked in the first place, and surreptitiously crept there without letting others see.

As the other teams continued to explore the island and got more and more frustrated, Francesca of Team Hong Kong Gaijin, believing there was trickery in the clue, declared, "You know it's going to be anything but a kid on a swing." Sometimes that's true, and the race clue is something more devious that you'd need to glean from the locals, but by turning that assumption on its head in this instance was a moment of sheer brilliance.

For icing on the cake, Team Indian Jock Models very cleverly decided to take lifts from friendly locals who offered to take them around to find the kid on the swing. The Amazing Editors helpfully intercut their hitchhiking adventures with clips of the other teams declining taking lifts, citing "it's in the rules that they cannot take free rides". At one point during the search, Team Indian Jock Models crossed paths with Team Singaporean Chicks who were all, "Why are you taking lifts? It's against the rules." Team Indian Jock Models' response? "Says who?"

BWA HA HA. Team Indian Jock Models ended up getting a penalty for their error, which lead to their elimination. Of course, in their post-race interview they claimed that they would have won the race if it hadn't been for this little technicality... Overlooking, of course, that THE RULES ARE PART OF THE RACE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

I was so happy when Team Jock got kicked out man. My God, were they annoying...

My other favourite elimination was the Filipina team. "You're Team Number ____" (I forgot). "Oh, that's good." "You're the last team to arrive." "Ohh... right." lololol.

Haha, yes that team's elimination was awesome too... I don't blame them for not remembering how many teams were left, but their =_= reaction was priceless.
